REMINDER: Orange Shirt Day - September 30th, 2019
Published on Sep 29, 2019 13:04

Good morning,

TOMORROW we wish to acknowledge Orange Shirt Day. It’s an important day to remind everyone - all students - that they matter / you matter!

We are encouraging all our MRO Family to wear an Orange Shirt on this day!

Orange Shirt Day started in 2013 by a school in British Columbia who invited Phyliss Webstad to their school as a guest speaker. Phyllis is now a grandmother but as a child she went to residential school - a time in Canada’s history that we are only beginning to learn about. On her first day of school, her new orange t-shirt was taken from her and never returned. It made her feel sad - like she didn’t matter.

As Phyllis shared her story, it inspired others to action and as a result - September 30th has been designated Orange Shirt Day because this was the day children were gathered and taken to residential school.

Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity to give life to this year’s theme - Called To Be Our Story - as we learn from the mistakes of the past and bring the true essence of Catholic education and faith values into our everyday life.

EVERY CHILD / EVERY STUDENT MATTERS!

God Bless,

Mr. Mauro Porco
