Visual Arts Celebrated at Ronan

On Thursday, June 9, students at Monsignor J.E. Ronan Catholic School gathered for an assembly to celebrate the very fine work presented in our recent art show and to applaud the winners as adjudicated by Mrs. Corrine Donnelly, local artist and former teacher.

Again this year, Mrs. Angela Lescard, school office administrator and professional artist, continued to challenge, encourage and inspire students in grades 4 through 8 during intermural drawing, painting and sculpting lessons over the full school year.  Pieces of this work, along with several other special selections, were shown over two weeks in our art show.

Students were recognized in the categories of drawing/painting and sculpting in each Junior and Intermediate grade.  The grand prize was awarded to Niya in Grade 8 for her self-portrait.

The arts are prioritized at Monsignor J.E. Ronan Catholic School, recognizing that the exploration of music, dance, drama and visual arts is linked to improved problem solving, concentration and self-confidence, as well as greater self-awareness and communication of emotion.  Research tells us that pursuit of the arts leads to increased academic achievement.

In addition to all the benefits that come from exploring the arts, we know that the greatest of all is the joy that comes from creating and sharing.  Monsignor Ronan himself would be proud as we encourage every student to use the arts to “let your light shine so that others may see the good that we do in His glory”.  (Matthew 5:16)

Well done, Ronan students!
