Full Day Kindergarten will be starting September 2012 at MRO. Your child has the opportunity to attend Junior & Senior Kindergarten all day, every day. Early learning provides a great
foundation for the education of our students. Starting Kindergarten is an exciting time for parents and children. Our entire school community looks forward to welcoming our youngest students as they begin a lifelong journey in learning. To help parents and students get ready for this important milestone, our board has developed an award-winning package. We encourage parents who are looking to register their child to drop by the office to pick up their copy of the package, which includes a parent booklet, child’s activity book and DVD. You can also find all of the information on our board’s website at
www.smcdsb.on.ca/parents/kindergarten. We are here to answer questions and help you prepare. Give us a call - 905-729-3473.
We hope to become an Eco School
Ontario EcoSchools is an environmental education and certification program for grades K-12 that helps school communities develop both ecological literacy and environmental practices to become environmentally responsible citizens and reduce the ecological footprint of schools. The key areas of achievement are: Teamwork & Leadership, Energy Conservation, Waste Minimization, School Ground Greening, Curriculum and Environmental Stewardship.

MRO has applied to be certified as an EcoSchool through an annual certification process. We are looking for parent volunteers to help us out. Give us a call. Learn more at

Picnic Table Project
Thanks to you and our School Council, funds have been raised to purchase the materials for our picnic tables! We decided to involve our students in the building of these tables. Thank you for supporting our fundraising activities! Also, thanks to Mr. Butler, our grade 8 teacher, some of our grade 6 to
8 students

will have a carpentry experience and story to tell. This
will become part of their math curriculum. Stay tune for the tall tale of
the picnic tables! Who ever thought that picnic table building could turn into a fable, myth or legend! We will wait to see and hear as the excitement begins!
Community programs in our school
Our
OPP partners are back for our grade 6s where they teach saying NO to drugs, alcohol and violence through the D.A.R.E. program. The OPP have also started a new program,
MAKING IT REAL, which is in its second year now for the grade 8s. It is an extension of D.A.R.E. and an opportunity to review with our graduates before they leave for high school to give them strategies to resist the unhealthy lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, substance abuse and violence. Also in our school is
New Path running the
S.N.A.P. program. They will be working with 2 of our classes to enhance healthy child development and to reduce social, emotional, or behavioral barriers to learning. This is about giving our children the skill-sets to help them make the right decisions when faced with difficult situations. This program supports our Health and Religion programs. This is a great program that we would like to eventually give to all of our students. It is tailored and geared to each classes' needs. With the peer pressure children deal with today, SNAP gives excellent coping strategies in decision making and problem solving.
MRO Catholic School Community Council Goal
Our council has approved the following goals for us to work towards with regards to where the fund raising money will be spent: 3 picnic tables to replace the old, worn down picnic tables for student use. Repaint the lines for the games on the pavement in the schoolyard as they are worn out. Print our 9 Catholic Value words onto the bulkheads in each classroom and library. Teacher allowances for craft supplies and classroom materials that enhance learning that are not mandatory through the curriculum. Playground equipment maintenance. Grade 8 graduation gifts and plaques. Healthy Snack program and Sports Jerseys. With deep gratitude, thank you, for your support in our fund raising events. God Bless
.
